Description:

As commercial aviation continues to grow, more and more engines will need to be manufactured that meet higher requirements for performance and fuel efficiency. Quality assurance in the aerospace industry offers unique challenges to maintain those high standards without hindering the speed of manufacturing and overall productivity. The integration of multi-sensor technologies in inspection labs is a strategy that can improve productivity without sacrificing quality standards. 

This conference session will review a case study comparing tactile and optical inspection of airfoils and investigate other aerospace applications including bladed rotors and multi-vane stators. The application of various sensor technologies and CMM accessories to reduce inspection time will be evaluated including:  tactile, chromatic white light, surface roughness, rotary table integration and even the use of computed tomography to accurately measure internal and external dimensions.
