Event Information

Title: Additive Manufacturing Conference - Training Programs for Additive Production: What Companies Ask For Vs. What They Really Need

Description:

There has been an explosion of educational offerings and training programs over the past decade as academia and professional organizations attempt to prepare the incumbent and future workforce for production with additive manufacturing (AM).  In this presentation, I will discuss what educational and training program offerings are available through several universities and professional societies in comparison to what companies need and are asking for to upskill their employees.  In particular, I will show how academic programs tend to focus on the process technology, material characteristics, and new design tools while companies struggle with quality assurance and control, making a via business case, and navigating the plethora of standards and regulatory pathways while de-risking AM processes that are constantly evolving.  Examples of AM education and training programs will be discussed to illustrate how the disparate approaches can be aligned to address industry needs and accelerate AM adoption.
