This presentation will explore PA 830-ESD 12, a graphite-filled Nylon 11 material used in laser powder bed additive manufacturing. The graphite filler provides electrostatic-dissipative properties well suited for automation applications involving sensitive electronics, while maintaining the strength, toughness, and surface finish required for functional production tooling.

As additive manufacturing becomes more common for end-of-arm tooling and automation fixtures, it enables design features that are difficult to achieve through traditional methods. Integrated internal geometries, reduced assembly steps, lightweight structural optimization, and rapid iteration make the process particularly well suited for robotic applications. The availability of electrostatic-dissipative polymer materials now allows these additive design advantages to be used in environments where ESD control is critical. This presentation will highlight the benefits of printed ESD polymer. Traditional approaches to ESD control in tooling, including conductive metals, coatings, and fiber-reinforced polymers, will be discussed for comparison.

Carbon fiber–reinforced powders are often selected for stiff, lightweight additive components, however, they may present limitations in powder reusability, surface finish, and processing stability. This session will evaluate how a graphite-filled Nylon 11 system compares in terms of processability, material reuse rates, and overall performance in powder bed fusion workflows. Key mechanical properties, electrostatic performance, and processing behavior will be reviewed.

By combining material performance with the design freedom of additive manufacturing, a variety of suitable robotics applications will be explored. These include robotic end-of-arm tooling, integrated vacuum manifolds, housings, and handling fixtures for electrostatic-sensitive components such as bare circuit boards and semiconductor subassemblies. Capacitive touch properties and related applications will also be discussed. Printed components will be shown to demonstrate as-printed surface quality and functional detail.

Attendees will walk away with an understanding of how electrostatic-dissipative polymers can be evaluated and implemented in additive manufacturing for robust, innovative robotics applications.
